Behind the Scenes of a CTV Commercial | Miami Video Production Case Study

At Mi Media Productions, a vibrant video production company based in Miami and a creative hub in South Florida, we often find ourselves diving into fast-paced campaigns that still need to pack a punch in storytelling and production quality. Recently, we had the exciting chance to create a Connected TV (CTV) campaign for KinderMed, a brand dedicated to providing effective children’s medicine without any artificial dyes, flavors, or unnecessary additives. This project was timed perfectly for the back-to-school season, and our mission was to craft a captivating 15-second CTV commercial that seamlessly combined live action, motion graphics, and animation. Let’s take a peek behind the curtain at how our Miami video production team tackled this shoot.

The Challenge of Creating a 15-Second CTV Commercia

Connected TV advertising demands storytelling that’s not only quick but also visually engaging. In this instance, we had a mere 15 seconds to introduce the product, highlight its benefits, and forge an emotional connection with families.

On top of that, the campaign called for:

• Motion graphics and animated elements

• Multiple versions of the commercial for targeted digital distribution

• A visual style that resonates with a children’s healthcare brand

For our South Florida creative studio, this meant meticulously planning each shot to ensure the story unfolded swiftly without feeling hurried.

Choosing the Right Location in South Florido

To create a genuine family atmosphere, we chose a lovely residential spot in South Florida that allowed us to capture both living room and kitchen scenes in one shot. This decision helped our Miami video production team quickly establish the right environment and minimized the need for multiple setups. The storyline is straightforward: a child starts feeling unwell while playing, a parent steps in with KinderMed, and just like that, the child is back to feeling great and having fun.

Camera and Lens Strategy

For this shoot, we opted for Canon cinema zoom lenses, which made it easy to switch between wide shots and close-ups without having to constantly adjust the camera. This method was particularly beneficial since we were working with a child actor and needed to keep things moving smoothly throughout the day. When it comes to commercial work in a South Florida creative studio, speed and flexibility are essential, especially when filming various takes for CTV campaigns.

Lighting the Scene

Lighting was designed to feel bright, soft, and welcoming, which is important for healthcare advertising aimed at families.

Our lighting setup included:

• A large key light through a softbox and silk diffusion
• Bounce fabric to soften shadows
• Window lighting to simulate natural daylight
• Background lighting to add subtle texture and depth

Because the commercial included animated characters interacting with the actors, we also needed clean, consistent lighting so the visual effects team could integrate the animation smoothly.

Working with Child Talent

As any Miami video production crew will tell you, working with kids requires a good dose of patience and adaptability. Our young actor did an amazing job, but like many children on set, she sometimes struggled to keep a straight face during scenes where she had to pretend to cough. To help guide her performance, we collaborated closely with her parent and captured reaction shots between takes, giving us more options during the editing process. Planning for these moments is a vital part of the production process.

Creating Multiple Versions for CTV and Digital

One of the advantages of CTV advertising is the ability to target specific audiences with different versions of the same commercial.

For this campaign, our South Florida creative studio delivered multiple variations, including:

• A mom-focused version
• A dad-focused version
• Social media cutdowns
• Micro-versions optimized for digital platforms

This approach helps brands maximize performance while keeping the core story consistent.

Enhancing the Product Shot in Post-Production

The product shot is often the most important moment in any commercial.

During the edit, we realized that the packaging didn’t pop enough in the close-up shot, so we enhanced the product digitally during post-production.

By adding a refined digital version of the bottle and box and matching the lighting and reflections, we were able to create a more impactful final shot without disrupting the scene.

The Final Story Moment

The commercial ends with the child feeling better and returning to her playful self.

Interestingly, this shot used the same camera setup and lighting arrangement as an earlier scene—we simply warmed the color temperature slightly to visually reinforce the emotional shift.

Small adjustments like this help tell a stronger story while keeping production efficient.

Bringing It All Together

Producing a successful CTV commercial requires balancing creative storytelling, technical precision, and production efficiency.

From lens selection to lighting design to post-production enhancements, every choice was made to ensure the final 15-second piece delivered both visually and emotionally.
